The vast Russian Empire was an almost constant thorn in the side of Napoleon..

Defeated by the French at Austerlitz in 1805.

Battle of Friedland.

Treaty of Tilsit. Napoleon met Czar Alexander on a raft in the middle of the Nieman river. Napoleon's Continental System was instituted to damage Britain's economy, but hurt Russia more.

Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812 was known by them as the Patriotic War of 1812. The harsh conditions caused huge casualties to both sides.

After pushing the French out of Russia, the Russians.continued across Prussia and into France. They were joined by Prussia and then eventually Austria.
