RohanThe horse lords of Rohan were often allied with Gondor. They fought continual border clashes with the Dunlendings through the Gap of Rohan to the west. During the War of the Ring, their king, Theoden, was influenced by the deceptive counsel of Grima Wormtongue. Grima was actually working on behalf of Saruman the wizard to try and take over Rohan. Grima so paralysed Theoden's thoughts that Rohan for a time was left almost defenseless. However, Eomer and others loyal to Rohan patrolled and protected the land from incursions of the Dunlendings and Uruk-hai. Released from the evil spell of Grima by Gandalf the wizard, Theoden's army retreated to the mighty fortress of Helm's Deep. With the aid of members of the broekn Fellowship, they smashed the Uruk-hai at a great cost in lives. Theoden's army came to the aid of Gondor; where their arrival at the battle of the Pelennor Fields was critical in defeating Sauron's evil hordes. |
