Isengard

Isengard. Fortress constructed to guard the Gap of Rohan at the south end of the Misty Mountains. Eventually home to Saruman the White. He was head of the order of wizards.

Sadly he became influenced by the evil Sauron through the palantir, a crystal ball which allowed viewing of far off places and events. By perverting what Saruman saw through the palantir, Sauron turned him from the side of good.

In his mighty tower of Orthanc, Saruman still had enough free will to plot to seize the great ring of power for himself. He created a super orc, known as Uruk-hai which did not fear sunlight and were tough warriors.

In creating his huge army, Saruman had his Orc slaves chopping down the ancient forest of Fangorn to feed his furnaces.

This angered the Ents so much, that they attacked and destroyed Isengard.

But before this occurred, the Uruk-hai army surged over Rohan, burning and attacking every settlement in their path.

Above. Although these Uruk-hai models are only browns and silver, the careful use of different shades makes the model surprisingly interesting.
