Dwarves

Dwarves are renowned for their skills in mining and metalwork. Although favouring the axe as a weapon, they had forged some famous swords such as the great blade Narsil.

They built great cities underground to support their mining. The greatest of these was Moria. Once a magnificent and hospitable place, it was overrun by goblins when the deep mining freed a balrog.

Dwarves tend to keep to themselves and are suspicious of elves.
