NWA Inc. is a non-profit club for those who enjoy wargaming socially
with miniatures, strategy games and role playing games. Wargaming covers a variety of games creating
historical and fictional battles on the tabletop.
Wargaming attracts people from all ages and backgrounds. Historical
periods including Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Richard the
Lionheart, Saladin, Oliver Cromwell, Marlborough, Napoleon and Rommel are
played as well as science fiction and fantasy such as Warhammer,
Necromunda and Lord of the Rings.

 Continuing the trend of the meetings this year, Croydon had a large turnout on the 2nd March.
A megagame of English Civil War was accompanied by 3 Napoleonic games, The Hobbit, Malifaux and Warmachine. These games covered a variety of scales and rules. Of course, the role player's were having fun as usual.

 Avast there lubbers! Pirate September continued at Mitcham. The Pirate Mega Game moved into the final rounds with even more players joining the fray. To add to the fun there was also a prize for the best dressed pirate Captain.

 Not just pirates, but troops of all sorts were taking part in many different games at the Croydon venue of NWA. Napoleonics in 25mm and 6mm, Lord of the Rings, Malifaux and Warmachine were some of the games being played in addition to the popular Pirate Mega-game.

 1949 Secrets of the Third Reich, SOTR for short, is the 28mm Weird World War Two miniature game from West Wind Productions. Players field armies of a Platoon of troops backed up by a variety of support units and led by daring heroes. As well as traditional infantry and vehicles, armies can include super-science, walking tanks, supernatural creatures and more.
As the name of the game suggests, SOTR is set in an alternate world where the Second World War is still being fought in 1949 with the aid of alien technology and supernatural powers. History is drastically altered as London is devastated by nuclear weapons, Russia invades Sweden, Japanese bombs fall on American soil and hordes of Zombies wander a ravaged Europe.

Last Saturday, we here at NWA in Melbourne had a visit from Mal Wright of Adelaide, who brought with him a demo of his forthcoming module in his WW2 convoy series which deals with Japanese convoys in the Pacific. This is an add-on to a system he has already had published. Mal is a prolific rules writer and researcher. It was great to chat to him about his wargaming projects and historical research.

 At the start of October 1813, the Prussians and Russians were trying to evict the French from Saxony. The Prussian corps of Bülow was aware that a French corps under Bertrand was operating in the area south of Chemnitz, in Saxony. By early afternoon, the Prussian advanced guard had passed the village of Ehrenfriedersdorf. They did not get much further north after encountering the light cavalry screen from Bertrand's corps around the village of Thum.

 Aaarrgh, me hearties! September is pirate month at NWA - in celebration of "Talk Like A Pirate" Day. At Croydon the first 3 rounds of the pirate mega-game were held. There were plenty of takers in search of plunder, plus a great variety of other games.

Download the free Army List and Label Generator program for Field of Glory Napoleonic.
Written by NWA member John Shaw, this is a spreadsheet for Excel 2010 which has been endorsed by Slitherine Ltd (although any errors are probably mine). It uses pull-down menus to easily choose the units you want in your FOGN army. The program automatically generates the points total for your army and the ACV (Army Combat Value) as per the rulebook.
The colour of the header section automatically changes when a nation is selected for your army and it automatically adds a flag, so you know who you are fighting for  .
It can automatically generate labels for your troops with a single click!

Convoy to Arkangelsk, Summer, 1942. It was just after half way through the year of '42 when the convoy set forth from Scotland, bound to bring aid to our Russian allies.
Only a small convoy was able to be formed from the available merchant ships as many were not ready in time. The dockyards were working around the clock to produce some more, but they had not yet arrived. (That is, we had only ordered some more merchantmen recently from GHQ, CinC and Panzerschiffe but they did not have time to arrive yet).

 With the first official day of winter upon us, it was a good time to be indoors wargaming on Friday night the 1st June. The Mitcham heaters were running to keep the outside cold at bay as many different games were on offer. This included role playing and a first attempt at Saga – a skirmish game about Vikings.
