DBR is a set of wargaming rules produced by Wargames Research Group in the UK. These have developed out of their popular DBA and DBM rules for Ancient and Medieval wargaming.

There are subtle differences which encourage the use of historical formations in order for armies to be successful.

Renaissance Weapons

The advent of gunpowder saw the demise of the fully armoured knight and the advent of new tactics. Troops were more easily trainedwhich allowed the raising of large levies.

The slow rate of fire from these primitive weapons meant that they required protection, particularly from cavalry.
