With two opposing fleets assembling amongst the Pacific islands, both sides were probing for weaknesses. Neither fleet was yet ready to take on the other, but they were keen to gain moral advantage before the oncoming battle.

Two cruiser forces were on intersecting courses. A British cruiser force was heading east, patrolling a line past which the Fleet Commander did not want the Japanese to go. A Japanese cruiser force was heading roughly south, mapping out possible lines of advance and probing the Allied picket lines.

120127mitcham04s1944. The Allies are continuing to push back the Japanese forces. But the Japanese Navy is doing all it can to stem the tide. Amongst the atolls of the Pacific Ocean, an small flotilla of Japanese ships is aggressively patrolling in defense of the likely island targets for the next Allied invasion.

A group of British ships are in transit to join an Allied force, which is assembling nearby. As the Japanese round one of the many atolls in the area, the two groups are surprised to see each other. But both are well trained and quickly swing into action.

Napoleonic Cold Steel Battle Report 26-Nov-11 PDF Print E-mail

John R. reckons he can write my After Action Reports himself; "If only I'd done...", "I should have done...", "I didn't spot..." etc. etc. Funny b*stard!

Unfortunately he's right, though: Last Saturday's game at the Croydon venue turned out to be exactly this sort of game! Robin and I took on Jim's Austrians with our respective French forces at the 1:120 scale, but Robin's arithmetic let him down leaving him with the niggling feeling he'd short changed himself. Events were to prove that he was probably correct!

World War 2 in the Pacific. Light easterly winds. Visibility 23,000 yards. Hot as Hades.

The British cruiser force steamed north through the islands, hunting for Japanese ships. A coastwatch observer had alerted them to a small Japanese force in the vicinity. The Japanese were aware that the islands were used as a base to refuel and rearm Allied submarines, but the Japanese force did not know exactly where.

Pimp my Pirate Ship PDF Print E-mail

111216wickedwench15sI’ve been asked how I got started on the Pirate gaming side of the Club. My response was that I had a few Pirates lying around and it started from there! Then I was asked how I happened to have a few Pirates lying around? I’m still stuck on that one.

Well, every Pirate needs a Pirate Ship – even a sinking dinghy such as Cap’n Jack had at the start of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie. And, even though my crew are technically Privateers, I wanted a ship for my crew.
