D&D Miniatures is based on the popular Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) role playing game. Bringing the role playing game to life, the pre-painted D&D Miniatures can be used straight out of the box for skirmish games of fantasy adventuring. Have your party seek treasure in the wild or in one of the many cavern systems where monsters lurk. Or if you would rather be the monsters; you can go hunting a party of brash treasure seekers. Designed for easy and fast play, the miniatures come with a card that contains special rules for the figures; so there is no need to lug around heavy rulebooks. |

WARHAMMER FANTASY |

Warhammer Fantasy – Dwarves against Elves Warhammer Fantasy Battles is one of the older “modern” wargames; now in its 7th edition and over 20 years old. WFB, as it is known for short, has seen over 25 years of play and is arguably one of the world’s most popular strategic fantasy wargames. The game has many aspects including model conversions, painting and scenery making. Craig Wyton put this display together. There are many other races with lots of figures available for each, including Dwarves, Elves, Empire (like Renaissance men), Bretonnians (like High medieval men), Lizardmen, Skaven (rat creatures), Tomb Kings (like undead Egyptians) and Orcs/Goblins. |

SCENERY MAKING |

Craig Wyton also ran the scenery making display. NWA owns many of the renowned Hirst Arts moulds for creating scenery in plaster. A benefit of being a member of NWA is that you can borrow these moulds to make your own scenery. There are sets of moulds for Fieldstone, Egyptian, Science Fiction and recently purchased was a set of moulds for Caverns. There are pieces for stairs, columns, paving, walls, doors and a myriad of decorative pieces. Craig demonstrated how to make fantastic scenery using the moulded items. He talked to visitors about many of the fantastic scenery pieces he has made over recent years. Visitors were also able to talk to John on the Battle of Five Armies display as he often uses some of these moulded pieces as part of his Lord of the Rings scenery. MAGIC UNHINGED |

Magic the Gathering™ is a popular card game about duels between mighty wizards. MTG is the original and most popular collectible fantasy card game. Most people play for fun, but there is a professional tournament scene with prizes over $1 million. So you can play serious competitive games or just play fun family jousts. Magic Unhinged is a humorous expansion set with some really odd cards to add a wacky twist to your Magic games. James and Bianca showed people some of the wacky cards that form part of the Unhinged set. |

STAR WARS MINIATURES |

A last minute addition to our open day displays was a game of Star Wars Miniatures by some young visitors. This game followed the success of the D&D Miniatures game system. The pre-painted collectible miniatures and coloured maps allow you to quickly start playing battles from all across the Star Wars universe. Key characters from all the Star Wars movies are available as well as stock characters such as Storm Troopers. All sorts of vehicles are also available including the AT-ST "Chicken" Walkers and the giant AT-ATs. With each figure comes a convenient card that details all the stats and special rules for that model. Jedi can use "The Force" . |
