GREETINGS |

Above. John McCartney. |
The welcoming smiles of John and Kathy McCartney greeted visitors throughout the day. After getting a free raffle ticket for prize draws throughout the day, a free copy of the club magazine (the Armchair General), and a guide to the displays, it was into the breach. Visitors could admire the spectacular scenery and wargaming figures or join in historical, fantasy or science fiction games. |

STAR WARS MINIATURES |
The first display to meet visitors was Star Wars Miniatures. Obi-Wan Kenobi and his troops had fought their way onto the space ship of General Grievous and his droids. Could they stop the evil general from his dastardly plans of destroying the Jedi? Iain and Connor McCartney showed how to play the Star Wars Miniatures game. The game covers the characters and creatures found in all six Star Wars movies as well as others covered by the books. Iain and Connor also showed a static display of the Imperial attack on the Rebel base on the ice planet of Hoth. The centrepiece of this display was a giant AT-AT attacking the shield generators. The figures are moulded plastic and come pre-painted, and coloured playing mats are included, so the game is ready to play straight out of the box. |

NECROMUNDA |
In the depths of the Underhive, monstrous creatures are born in the mutating wastes. Unlucky gangs that run foul of these abominations must fight a desperate battle for their lives. Necromunda is the game of Gang skirmish warfare set in the futuristic Warhammer 40,000 universe. Groups of ten or more battle for supremacy in the dog-eat-dog Underhive, trying to survive the harsh conditions, deadly wildlife and the constant hail of bullets. Scraps of lost technology are fought over in bloody conflicts involving many gangs. This demonstration game involved several gangs battling for supremacy. Put on by James Wright & friends. |

D&D MINIATURES |
D&D Miniatures is a relatively new game based on the long established and popular Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) roleplaying game. The game is another that comes with pre-painted miniatures, ready to be be played straight out of the box. The range of miniatures is large. A game takes only a short time to complete. On display was a clash between the dwarves and their constructs versus the evil monsters of the lower dungeons. James Wyton was another of our younger members who impressed us all by his effort and the friendly way he ran the game all day. |

WARHAMMER FANTASY |
Warhammer Fantasy is a game of tactical movement, troop psychology and overwhelming numbers. It has a very strong worldwide tournament following. The game is usually played with armies sized to take a few hours for the battle to complete. Armies include traditional fantasy armies such as dwarves, elves, orcs, goblins and men as well as a variety of others including tomb kings, skaven (rat men) and warriors of chaos. On display by Craig Wyton was a clash between the steadfast dwarves and the undead forces of the evil sorceror. Craig is the driving force behind Cheezecon each October, a series of fun tournaments. |

WARMACHINE |
In the heart of Thornwood Forest armies of storm belching Warmachines and Hordes of beasts battle over long forgotten Ogroth ruins. Battles are fought between warcasters from rival factions. Each warcaster controls a large steam-powered warjack as well as human or fantasy troops. Many visitors saw retro-tech machines powered by coal fighting in the steam-punk world of Iron Kingdoms. Over the ring of steel on steel, the shots of guns and the whoosh of steam, the only rule known is to play like you've got a pair. Brendan, Adam and friends showed off their well painted figures for this set of rules for futuristic combat. |
