FLAMES OF WAR |
Flames of War is a tactical level simulation of combat in World War 2 published by Battlefront Miniatures of New Zealand. Two of our own members, Neil Gerhard and Sean O'Neill, helped to play test the rules. Originally designed for 15mm figures (1:120 scale), it is playable in other scales. This display was put on by Mike Parker from Battlefield Accessories and friends (see also Traders and Helpers page). Mike is a member of Peninsula Praetorians, a "Band of Brothers" who meets weekly in Mornington. They engage in a range of period table top games from Ancients through to World War 2. |

DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatus) |
Kindly stepping in to the breach at the last minute to help with DBA were Lord of the Rings players Richard Bradley and Tom Brake. This popular historical rule set covers both Ancient & Medieval warfare. Only 12 groups of figures per side are used so an army is quick to put together. This makes the game easy to learn, but don't be fooled by its simplicity; it provides great tactical challenges. For those wishing to graduate to larger armies, the troops are fully compatible with DBM. The rules are a simplified version of those used in DBM so it is a great way to start. |

WORLD WAR 2 - North Africa |
In the western desert of North Africa the allied 8th Army is trying to hold back the legendary Afrika Korps commanded by the wily fox himself, Erwin Rommel. Amidst the sand and dust, the mechanized warfare comes to life in this portrayal of one of the battles leading up to El Alamein. In this re-enactment put on by Chris Bridgland and friends, the 8th Army did not fare as well as their historical counterparts. The sight of burning Crusader tanks was a common sight during the afternoon at Games 2006. |

HORDES OF THE THINGS |
Golden Kingdom versus the Blackstone Hordes. For many years, there was peace across the provinces of the Golden Kingdom. It was been broken by the savage destruction of villages and crushing defeats of men-at-arms by the Blackstone Hordes. The Hordes are an army of vicious humanoids and undead who swarmed from the forbidding Blackstone mountains intent on devastation and plunder. Now, the Bishop-Queen of the Golden Kingdom herself stands with the kingdom's remaining defenders to challenge and defeat them in a final battle. Presented by Neil Hughes and Nick Palovski, Hordes of the Things (HOTT) is a fantasy version of DBA. Easy to learn but with great tactical challenges. Some of Neil's magnificent scenery was on display along with troops from Neil and Nick. The windmill actually has a motor that turns the arms! |
