Defending Baggage
This tactic involves using the back edge of the board as a defensive barrier to prevent your units &/or baggage from being flanked/overlapped from the side. Some may describe these as "gamesmanship" or "cheesy" but if you participate in any tournament you are likely to have them used against you.
Diagrams drawn to 15mm scale, all dimensions in "mm" unless otherwise specified.![]() Elements with their backs to the edge are destroyed if recoiled, but as most enemy attacks will usually be by mounted troops (& most light infantry cannot recoil from mounted anyway) this doesn't present a major drawback. |
Fig. A: illustrates one method of deploying a low grade unit [Hd, Ps(I), Ax(I)....etc.] to defend or at least delay the sacking of your camp from enemy
attack. Elements with their back to the edge of the board cannot be flanked and any attack to their front will be threatened by the adjacent line angle to the left. Hd(I) are the best for this role as they don’t count towards the break point of your army. |
