Changing Targets

The first step for making any spontaneous advance is determining the impetuous element's enemy target! It is possible for this target to change during the element's movement. It usually involves skirmishers being ignore initially for not sitting "directly ahead" from the impetuous element at the start.

Example: An impetuous Kn(F) element must make a spontaneous advance. At the start it ignores the Ps(O), being a skirmisher not within "directly ahead", and targets the Cv(O) on the left (fig.I).

The Kn(F) begins its spontaneous advance by wheeling/pivoting towards the Cv(O). By doing this, the Ps(O) falls within "directly ahead" becoming a legitimate & closer target than the Cv(O). The Kn(F) now  proceeds to charge the new target, Ps(O).
