Goliath Award; Jonathan Stone (Not Present)
|
Umpire’s Report It was my pleasant duty to umpire this year’s Victorian Championship. The competition was generally played in an excellent spirit and there appeared to be minimal confusion concerning Version 3.1. Scott Nicholas and his Ugaritic army seemed largely unaffected by 3.1 winning all four games. Martin Morgan also wheeled out his chariot armed Assyrians and clinched second and Peter D’Costa’s rather Byzantine looking Lydians secured third, his best tournament result. Jonathan Stone pulled off the largest boilover in the tournament beating the reigning Australian Champion Alex Inglis and thus secured the Goliath award. The most Sporting Player award was determined by players voting for the most sporting person they had played throughout the tournament. Andrew Wright was a worthy winner of this award. 3.1 seems to already have had an effect on army choice and composition as the competition saw armies organised around larger amounts of foot and Geoff Frost’s effective use of Wb(O) and (S) suggests there will be more of these types of army in the future. I would like thank Scott Nicholas for his role in organising the competition, Anthony Winter for his excellent job on the trophies and all of the players for their participation, David Young for doing all the list checking, plus the rest who assisted with carting tables and stuff around. Many thanks! Regards, Michael George (Umpire)
