Cancon 2006: Friday 27th to Sunday 29th

Please read the following thoroughly, there are changes to previous years.

This tournament will be run in accordance with any IWF championship tournament rules which may be made available on the SAAW website www.nwa.org.au/dbx/SAAW/ or alternatively, contact your state SAAW representative.

The tournament will consist of six (6) rounds, two rounds per day starting at 9.00am and 1.30pm.

  • Rules: DBM v3.1, including official amendments (released 25th March 2001) and Army Lists errata's issued by the authors.
  • Armies to be selected from any DBM Army Lists Books 1 to 4 (2nd edition), up to 1500AD and not exceeding 375AP

  • One army list only to be used.
  • Rules Clarifications may be provided on the SAAW website or contact your SAAW representative.
  • Table sizes 6’ by 4’ (standard

  • Terrain, Weather, Time of Day; as per DBM version 3.1. (Players to provide terrain.)
  • It is expected that games will achieve a minimum of 12 pairs of bounds, and that deployment (including all pre-game preparations) must not exceed 40mins. If either player requests, blitz rules will be applied to ensure a minimum of 12 bounds are played.
  • Dice will be provided to each table by the organisers.
  • All figures must be appropriately based, painted and accurately depict the troops they represent.
  • Scoring will be 0 to 10 as per the DBM 3.1 rules.
  • Pairing will generally be by Swiss Chess. However in the first 4 rounds it will be based on Swiss Chess within 4 historical pools which will be as equally sized as possible while minimizing byes. Players will be allocated to pools at the start of round 1 based only on the year of their army. For rounds 5 & 6, the historical pools are ignored. Pairing within Swiss Chess score groups will be generally random (not based on army year) except for the usual exclusions on inter-state players being paired in the first 2 rounds, etc.
  • Mr Karl Hamlyn has generously offered to be umpire.

How-To-Enter
You can only enter this championship by;

(2)              Lodging a list directly with the SAAW List Checker by the deadline 30th December.
Late submissions will be penalised.

Please note that SAAW is also running a DBA competition on Sunday 29th January (details below). Players who enter the DBM may wish to switch to the DBA on Sunday. Players wishing to do so need only to fill in the DBM entry details and pay the DBM entry fee. Then let SAAW organizers know by no later than Saturday afternoon that they intend to play DBA on Sunday. For DBM players, there is not a separate entry fee for DBA. The DBA is expected to finish earlier than DBM on the Sunday afternoon, so players who have to leave early may wish to use this option.

Submitting Army Lists

Army lists must be submitted in a legible format, clearly identifying all options relevant to the composition of your army such as; exact date, race/nationality (eg. Spartan), geographical region (eg. Galerius’ Eastern army) and/or commander (eg. Attila, Duke William). Both selections from your list must comply with these same options. Also include climate and aggression factor.

Your army list must be submitted with the following;

  1. Complete summary of all troop types using correct descriptions (as per their list), individual points values and an overall summation of points that does not exceed 375AP. [Identify all double based elements.]

  2. Breakdown by commands with allocation of all elements including baggage (inc. type of baggage), the total element equivalents and demoralistion level for each command. Include the same for the whole army as well.

Lists failing to provide the above details will be returned for resubmission. Once an army list has been submitted it may not be changed or altered other than to correct any errors discovered by the list checker. The list checker’s decision is final.  If using email, please include your list as attached spreadsheet or text file. We do not use DBMw software.

Teams Events: Individual teams – 3 players, State teams - 4 players (as selected by their respective state SAAW reps). Individual Team entries to be submitted prior to round 1 to tournament umpire.

Trophies to be awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd placings, Best Performing Player and teams placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Prize Vouchers provided by Essex Miniatures Australia, figures provided by Essex Miniatures and trophy painting by HCH Figures.

“Best Performing Player” will be awarded to the competitor who best performs above their pre-tournament ranking. The "Porus" award & prize voucher from Miniature World Maker will be given to that player who defeats a higher ranked player with the largest differential between their rankings.

1st Australian DBA Championship

15mm DBA: 29th January 2006

The DBA Championship will be held over 5 rounds on Sunday 29th January 2006, starting at 9.15 am. Each round will consist of 1 hour of play. There will be 3 rounds prior to lunch and 2 after lunch. The DBA championship is expected to finish before 4 pm for those who may have to leave Cancon early.

The rules used will be DBA V2 with the following adjustment:

·         Dismounting/remounting troops may mount/dismount only at the start of the game.

Mr Doug Melville will be organizer and umpire. Trophies will be awarded to the players finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Players who enter the DBM championship may switch to DBA instead at no cost by letting the DBM organizers know no later than Saturday afternoon. They need only send in a DBM entry form. Players who want to enter the DBA only should indicate this on the Cancon entry form they send to CGS and will need to pay the $22 DBA entry fee.
