Welcome to the official website for the 2005 IWF Individual World Championship. We would like to
thank everyone who took part, in particular the overseas travellers who made it a truly international event. The attendance figures were very much underestimated. Our original plan for 120
competitors was thrown into disarray when 160 registered, sending the organising team into a mad scramble for additional floor space and tables. We are grateful for the efforts of the venue
staff for assisting us to accommodate the final numbers.
Congratulations to Dave Handley (UK) and Dave Clarke (UK) for securing the 2005 World
Championship titles for DBM and DBR. Both had difficult draws with tough opposition, unfortunately most of this didn't come from the Australian quarter (... at least not in the DBM!) The
Championship did re-established Trans-Tasman rivalry not seen for at least 18 years, here's hoping wargaming relations between NZ and Australia have been kick-started again.
From an umpiring perspective, Andrew Berkin and myself certainly had our hands full applying the
new IWF rules for achieving a minimum twelve bounds per game. This certainly proved to be a challenge for a small number competitors :) Calls for rules arbitration were not numerous but
definitely tested our knowledge of "Barkerese" to the limit. Mistakes were inevitably, fortunately I can count them on one hand.
Look forward to seeing you all in Athens next year!
Scott Nicholas
Senior Umpire
