18 players enjoyed the Winter tournament for DBA held by Nunawading Wargames Association. It was a hotly contested and fun evening, held on a normal club night at the Mitcham venue.

Umpire's Report

This year's NWA Winter De Belis Antiquitatus tournament was held on Friday, 23rd July and was well attended with 18 players. The selection of armies was pleasantly diverse without the legions of the much feared later Medieval and Alexandrian Successor armies to unbalance the evening's games. This tournament also saw the introduction of the "Gut's n' Glory" trophy which was just snatched from Martin Morgan by Richard Gorringe by a mere 2 DBM army points. In fact over half of the armies present were eligible for this trophy, proving that most DBA players are little concerned about final score so long as they have a good evening.

The final tally of the evening saw Anthony Winters' beautifully painted Seleucid army in first place, Peter D'Costa's Pyrrhics (what else?) in Second, and Gavin Bowman in Third place was the Sassanid Persians. An honourable mention must go to Scott Nicholas and his Free Company and to Iain McCartney who finished the night in overall 5th place as well as being awarded the Junior Champion. Neil Hughes' Ancient British army was declared the best painted on the evening, and proved to be a tough opponent on the table-top as well as a good looking one. Although coming last, Mitch Dover was rewarded for maintaining his sense of humour and thanks to Eureka Miniatures did not go home empty handed.

As always, this tournament was made possible by our generous sponsors at Eureka Miniatures and Military Simulations.

Julian Donohoe

Some elements have been lost from each side and the battle is getting tense.

A fine bunch of winners. Anthony Winter led the competition and young Iain McCartney taking away the coveted best Junior which included a painted DBA army!

The multi talented Julian who can pat his head, rub his tummy and announce winners all at the same time!
