Parthian (250BC - 225AD) List II #37 Tom Brake Combination of tent, spit roast, pack camels and supplies being guarded by spearmen I liked the idea of a colourful very mobile force with some powerful knights. The army is a mixture of mainly Essex with some Irregular and I have some Donnington figures to paint up as a new general and a cataphract camel knight element. As reference and ideas for painting I used Osprey’s MAA “Rome’s enemies (2) : Parthians and Sassinid Persians”, Montvert Publications “Sassanian Armies” and Phil Barker’s “Armies and Enemies of Imperial Rome”. These were particularly helpful with the cataphract armour and colourings. More imagination was needed for the horse archers but I used a variety of colours with contrasting bands and headgear. |
